What is Business Continuity Management?
BCM is the management discipline used to understand disruption impacts, set recovery requirements, design recovery capability, prepare plans, exercise that capability and improve it over time.
What is the difference between BCM and a BCP?
BCM is the ongoing management system and lifecycle. A business continuity plan is one operational artefact within it.
Is disaster recovery the same as business continuity?
No. Disaster recovery normally focuses on restoring technology and data; business continuity covers the wider ability to continue priority services using people, premises, suppliers, technology, information and workarounds.
Recovery objectives
What is RTO?
Recovery Time Objective is the target time for restoring an activity, service or resource to an agreed level after disruption.
What is RPO?
Recovery Point Objective describes the acceptable data-loss point measured backward from the disruption, and is relevant where data can be lost between recoverable copies.
How do MTPD/MAO and RTO relate?
The maximum tolerable period of disruption or outage describes when impact becomes unacceptable. The RTO should be set earlier so the organization has time to recover and stabilize before that tolerance is breached.
What is MBCO?
Minimum Business Continuity Objective describes the minimum acceptable level of products or services to be delivered during disruption.
Plans, exercises and software
How often should continuity plans be reviewed?
Use both a scheduled review cycle and event-driven triggers such as major service, technology, supplier, facility or organizational change. Exercise findings should also trigger updates.
Does an exercise prove recovery capability?
Only to the extent that its objectives and scope test the required capability. A discussion-only tabletop cannot prove a technical recovery time unless the technology is actually recovered and measured.
When does BCM software help?
Software becomes valuable when scale, workflow, shared dependencies, traceability, reminders, reporting and access control are difficult to maintain with documents and spreadsheets alone.
Can AI write a continuity plan?
AI can assist drafting and quality review when it is grounded in approved source information, but accountable owners should verify recovery decisions, dependencies, procedures and controlled changes.

What is ISO 22301?
ISO 22301 is the international standard for business continuity management systems. BCM.Center provides educational implementation guidance; formal requirements should be checked against the official standard.
Does using a template make a plan ISO 22301 compliant?
No. Compliance depends on the management system, scope, evidence and implementation, not on completing a particular template.
